Max Walewski ’26 (B.Arch)Max Walewski ’26 (B.Arch)Established in honor of Caldwell, the School of Architecture’s former director of career services, the award assists with expenses associated with an internship for one full-time architecture student each summer.

The creation of the award fund was prompted by The deGraffenried Foundation, whose members include School of Architecture alumni Garland deGraffenried ’09 (B.Arch), senior development officer at Continuum Company; Elizabeth Gralton ’08 (M.Arch), principal architect at Gralton Desilva Architecture & Design; and Jason Renock ’10 (Whitman), director of development and construction at Toll Brothers. The foundation sought a way to continue the impact and passion for supporting architecture students in their career search that Caldwell displayed while at the School of Architecture.

“Connie’s passion for helping students navigate their first steps into a career in architecture was nothing short of inspiring,” says Gralton. “She impacted and motivated so many of us and demonstrated the great network of Syracuse Architecture–I’m so grateful we can honor her legacy with this award.”

The award selection was chosen from a very competitive applicant pool representing a wide range of internship opportunities. Walewski will receive $7,500 towards completing a summer internship with Perkins&Will in Boston, Massachusetts.

“I am truly honored to be the recipient of such generosity and support offered through this award and the experiences gained at the School of Architecture, which has allowed me to pursue my passion and career in architecture,” says Walewski. “Receiving the Connie Caldwell Summer Internship Award inspires and motivates me to continue my professional journey in Boston this summer and will be immensely helpful as I strive to grow within the architecture community and achieve my dream of making a meaningful impact in the future.”
