The School of Architecture has announced the appointment of Paul Auguste ’94 (B.Arch) to its advisory board.
Auguste, AIA, NOMA, is Director of Aviation + Transportation at global architecture and engineering firm HOK, where he leads multidisciplinary teams on complex aviation and transportation projects from design through construction. He also serves on HOK’s global board of directors.
Auguste has played a leadership role in some of the nation’s most significant airport projects. He served as design manager for LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B, a transformative $5.1 billion redevelopment that HOK identifies as the largest public-private partnership in U.S. aviation history. The 1.3-million-square-foot terminal features a four-story arrivals and departures hall and two 450-foot-long pedestrian bridges connecting passengers to island concourses. The project was completed in 2022 and has since received numerous honors, including Skytrax’s 2023 World’s Best New Airport Terminal.
In addition to his work at LaGuardia, Auguste has led teams on major projects at Washington Dulles International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport. His aviation experience encompasses projects with demanding construction, phasing and operational requirements, and he has been a leader in HOK’s global Aviation + Transportation practice since being appointed a firm-wide director in 2020.
A longtime advocate for the architecture profession and the next generation of designers, Auguste has worked to expand opportunities for students and advance diversity within the profession. His professional service has included mentorship through the ACE Mentor Program and efforts to create pathways for emerging professionals and underrepresented firms to gain experience on major aviation projects.
Auguste has maintained a strong connection to Syracuse Architecture since earning his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1994. He was instrumental in establishing HOK New York’s inaugural commitment to the School’s Career Services Support Fund, which expands resources and career-building opportunities for students. He has also served as an important connector between Syracuse Architecture and HOK, helping to strengthen the School’s ongoing relationships with the firm and its leadership and fostering a research partnership between HOK and the School that has created opportunities for faculty and students to engage with industry-led inquiry and innovation.
“Paul’s leadership at HOK and his longstanding partnership with the School have created exceptional opportunities for our students and faculty to engage with innovative research, industry collaboration and real-world practice,” says Michael Speaks, dean of the School of Architecture. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the Advisory Board and look forward to the insight, experience and global perspective he will bring as we advance the School’s mission and prepare the next generation of design leaders.”
As a member of the Advisory Board, Auguste will help inform the School’s strategic direction, drawing on his experience leading complex aviation and transportation projects at the highest levels of professional practice.
