FTES Page 1: Placement Exams
Online Placement Exams must be completed by June 18, 2020.
Architecture students are required to complete the Mathematics Placement Examination before you begin your first semester at Syracuse University. In this section, click on the link that says, “click here to go to Placement Exams” to take the exam online. You can also access the placement exam through MySlice at MySlice > Student Services > Placement Exams > Take Placement Exams. You will use the same username and password as your MySlice account to take the exam. Mathematics is not required during your first semester but you will still need to take the placement examination now.
A language is not required for Architecture students. However, if you want to study a language in a future semester, you will need to take a placement exam at that time. There is no need to take a language placement exam now.
Choose one of the following writing options:
Please read all of the choices below before selecting the correct writing option.
WRT 105- Studio 1: Academic Writing (3 credits)
WRT 105 is a required course for your first semester of the BArch program unless you are coming in with Advanced Placement, Transfer or SummerStart credit for Writing. If you know that you will not have credit for WRT 105, and english is your primary language, please check this box.
I have been admitted to the Renee Crown University Honors Program and will be taking WRT 109.
If you have been admitted to the Renee Crown University Honors Program and do not have incoming credit writing, you will take an honors level writing course, WRT 109. Refer to the honors program under Additional Program Information on the first FTES page.
ENL 201- Intermediate English for Non-Native Speakers of English (3 credits). English is not my primary language. I will take the ELAE when I arrive on campus.
International Students and/or students who speak English as a second language will be placed in the ENL sequence (English as a Second Language) instead of WRT 105. All International Students (students from English-speaking countries are generally exempt from taking the placement exam) will be registered for ENL 201 until you take the English Placement Assessment Exam. This exam will be held on various dates during the two weeks before the semester begins. Please visit the Orientation site for a listing of those dates. If you are an International Student that is required to take the English Language Assessment Exam or if you speak English as a second language, please check this box and you will be registered for the appropriate ENL course after the results of the placement exam are provided to the School of Architecture in August.
I expect to receive external credit for writing and will not be taking this class. I will enter my choices for an alternative course on page 3. If you expect to receive external credit for writing and will be taking an elective this semester, please check this box. This elective will fulfill an Arts & Sciences requirement. FTES Page 3: Replacement Courses
This is the area where you will enter an elective if you checked the 4th box in the Writing Section. You will use the Courses Available to First-Year Architecture Students link found in the “Resources” section of your FTES pages. Please list your choices in rank order and we will do our best to place you in your first choice class. Please refer to this list only, as these are the only courses that will fit into a first-year architecture student’s schedule. You will get an error message if you choose a course that is not on the Courses Available to First-Year Architecture Students list.
If you checked any of the first three writing section boxes on page 1, simply leave the replacement course section blank and 15 credits should auto populate at the bottom of the page.
At this point, please click “next” box and it will bring you to FTES page 4.
