Established in honor of Caldwell, the School of Architecture’s former director of career services, the award assists with expenses associated with an internship for one full-time architecture student each summer.
The creation of the award fund was prompted by The deGraffenried Foundation, whose members include School of Architecture alumni Garland deGraffenried ’09 (B.Arch), senior development officer at Continuum Company; Elizabeth Gralton ’08 (M.Arch), principal architect at Gralton Desilva Architecture & Design; and Jason Renock ’10 (Whitman), director of development and construction at Toll Brothers. The foundation sought a way to continue the impact and passion for supporting architecture students in their career search that Caldwell displayed while at the School of Architecture.
The award selection was chosen from a very competitive applicant pool representing a wide range of internship opportunities. Turner will receive $7,500 towards completing a summer internship with SAH Design LLC in Holliston, Massachusetts.
“The Connie Caldwell Internship Award will aid in the travel that is required each day to get into the office because I value being in person and working closely with my boss in order to truly gain a hands-on experience,” says Turner. “I am truly thankful for the financial support; it will greatly help me to further my professional endeavors and achieve my life goal of using my creativity to help others.”
“We know Connie would be thrilled for Aidan and impressed with his ability to engage with so many activities in and around architecture,” says Gralton. “We’re excited for his opportunity with SAH Design LLC and hope he has a fulfilling summer!”
