Xixi Chen

Xixi Chen (she/they) is an architect, educator, and researcher working between Los Angeles and Syracuse. Born in Shanghai and raised outside of Chicago, her research bridges architecture and contemporary art practices through community ethos to examine diaspora, memory, kinship, and commemoration across global and intimate scales.

Her design practice, XXS–Xixi Studio, is engaged in small-scale projects with collaborators worldwide. Chen has worked with architecture firms in Los Angeles, New York, and Amsterdam, including Michael Maltzan Architecture and 2x4, and her work has been exhibited at Storefront for Art and Architecture and published in GA Document.

Chen holds an M.Arch from Columbia University and a B.S. in Architecture and Art History (with high honors) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently teaching at Syracuse University, Chen has previously taught at Columbia University and Barnard College. She is a licensed architect in the state of California.
