Trial and Error

Trial and Error is both the theme of the first issue of DISTIGMO magazine and the method that gave birth to it. With this self-referential gesture, the concept is approached not only as a process but also as an instrument, a tool that leads to new modes of understanding. DISTIGMO is a practice defined as it is formed, and therefore it is driven by the possibility of mistake, embracing the potential of what error can uncover. In Greek, error translates to láthos (λάθος), which etymologically implies a hidden meaning or a deviation from the expected path. Through this concept, trial and error loses its binary character and mistakes do not define right or wrong; they act as agents that actively influence and shape the creative process. The lecture will reflect on the topic of trial and error as a methodology that shaped DISTIGMO and allowed mistakes to reveal unexpected outcomes and guide its practice through doubt and experimentation.
