Deborah Hauptmann is Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture at Iowa State University. Prior to her position at ISU, she was Director of the Delft School of Design at the TU Delft, The Netherlands. She has practiced Architecture in Switzerland, Spain and America. Her research draws on a trans-disciplinary approach to architecture, including disciplines of art, philosophy, cultural & media studies, and the social, cognitive, and neuro sciences. Her volume, Cognitive Architecture: From Biopolitics to Noopolitics: Architecture and Mind in the Age of Information and Communication (co-authored 010, 2010), and The Body in Architecture (010 2006) are examples of this approach. Much of her scholarship includes work on the French philosopher Henri Bergson, including the English co-translation of his 1889 Latin thesis Quid Aristoteles de Loco Senserit / On Aristotle’s Conception of Place.
