Expanded Landscape
Weil is an artist and designer based in Los Angeles. An innovator in digital portraiture, Weil’s practice ranges from large-scale public installations to videos and interactive art. Since 2011, the artist has focused on what she calls Extended Landscapes: works that visualize the layers of the Earth that exist “beneath our feet, above our heads, and back in time.” Weil will discuss her approach to the unseen or inaccessible phenomena, the shift from traditional horizontal landscape to a vertical section cut to represent the depth and breadth of planetary time. Drawing from her works in video, large scale public installations and early AI, she will address how scale, space and audio shape the viewer’s experience of her work.
