Zack Matthews is multi-disciplinary designer with a background spanning architecture, commercial retail design, and 3D product design. Matthews’ professional interest lies in discovering and developing the connections between the scales and processes of each discipline while keeping physical craft and fabrication core to that experimentation.
Currently working with Curious Minds Los Angeles, Matthews started his career at Michael Maltzan Architecture where he led a broad range of work from the office’s Biennale exhibitions, to high-end residential construction. He most recently completed a tenure at Nike where he was responsible for developing a new suite of experiences to refresh Nike By You – Nike’s in-store customization and co-creation zone.
Over this past summer, Matthews co-coordinated an SU Abroad seminar in Tokyo with Erin Cuevas, named “Tokyo Retail: Surfaces of Consumption” hypothesizing the role of the storefront in today’s retail landscape and serving as one of the precursors to this year’s “Window Shopping” VC studio.
Matthews holds a Master’s in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California.
