Rami Kanafani is a PhD candidate in the History and Theory of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. He writes about the histories of architecture and the environment, a conjunction through which he explores the spiritual dimensions of ecological thinking, American countercultural aesthetics, and the politics of environmentalism and the Anthropocene. His dissertation investigates the architectural experiments of the American counterculture of the 1970s and 80s, with a focus on the environmentalism and spirituality of the New Age.
