Jia Gu

D. Kenneth Sargent Visiting Critic

Jia Gu is a Los Angeles-based designer, educator and curator  with a special interest in critical and conceptual practices in art and architecture. She is co-director of Spinagu and Executive Director of Materials & Applications. Her public projects have been recognized and supported by the  Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Graham Foundation, Pasadena Arts Alliance, and UCLA.

Previous to founding Spinagu, Jia has worked and collaborated with international studios including raumlaborberlin and  Something Fantastic. Her work has taken her to Berlin, Shanghai, Anyang, Prague, Torino, and Barcelona. In 2015, she was appointed Executive Director of Materials & Applications.

Jia holds a B.A. in Visual Arts with Honors from UCSD and a Master of Architecture with Honors from UCLA. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Architecture at UCLA Architecture and Urban Design (AUD).
