Yiming Wang is a distinguished Chinese artist and educator with a profound career spanning over three decades. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hunan Vocational College of Arts and Crafts (1986) and a Master of Arts from Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (1993). Since 1993, he has been a pivotal figure at the South China University of Technology School of Architecture, where he serves as Director of the Fine Arts Teaching and Research Office, Visual Art Laboratory, and Environmental Art Research Institute. Additionally, he founded Wang Yiming Studio and has been a Visiting Scholar at the Central Academy of Fine Arts since 2000.
Wang’s artistic practice is marked by a deep engagement with spirituality and nature, exemplified in his acclaimed Flags and Mountain Kora series on Tibet. His art and installations have been exhibited internationally, including at the Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse), Hôtel de l’Industrie (Paris), Montpellier Town Hall, Shang Art Foundation (Vancouver), and Today Art Museum (Beijing). His solo exhibitions, such as “Loungta” in Paris (2022) and “Mountain Kora” at Today Art Museum, Beijing (2017), have garnered international recognitions. His monographs include The Rainy Season of Shangri-la (Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House), Mountain Kora (Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House), and Flags (Canton-Sardine, Vancouver, Canada).
A recipient of numerous accolades, Wang was honored with “Wang Yiming Day” in Syracuse, NY, in 2022. His contributions extend beyond art into academia, where he actively participates in China’s architectural and fine arts education committees. Wang’s multidisciplinary approach bridges traditional and contemporary art, making him a influential figure in global contemporary art discourse.
