This digital representation workshop will explore the ways in which aspects of story-telling can inform image-making techniques. The group will consider how all convenient image making has become through methods of digital modeling –jpegs, PNGs and TIFFs cluttering our folders, as mere byproducts of our individual design processes. And while images may often take the form of passive documentation, nearly accidental findings and observations of our own digital creations, they can also be instrumentalized into intentional frames that collapse multiple times, observations and layers of information with intention.
Through technique-building assignments and close readings of image-centered works in photography, comic illustration, paintings and screenprints the workshop will encourage participants to consider how the effects of light, resolution, ambiguity and composition all come together in creating an image that demands a second look.
