Yuanrong Ma

Yuanrong Ma is a licensed architect registered in New York State, the art director at GEIJOENG®, the creative director at United Xpanded and a certified yoga instructor (RYT500) currently based in Shanghai, China. The diversity of her career emphasizes an interest in the interplay between body, space and movement, between fashion and architecture, between the transient and the transcendent. She has also been passionately exploring and extending her interest by practicing yoga, modern dance, as well as presentation for some Chinese avant-garde fashion brands, namely Uma Wang, Boundless, and Labelhood.

Ma’s architectural and interior projects have received numerous design awards and has been featured in the Venice Architecture Biennale, the World Architecture Festival, and in publications such as A+U, Architectural Journal, Wallpaper, dezeen, and designboom. Her installation works have been displayed at Power Station of Art, Shanghai Exhibition Center, Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center, National Exhibition & Convention Center, etc.

Her academic works have been published on David Adjaye: Authoring: Re-placing Art and Architecture, Mansilla + Tunon: From Rules to Constraints, etc. She received AIA Scholastic Award for excellence in design and has been a curator and critic at Hong Kong University, Shanghai Study Center. Before returning back to China to start her own practice, Ma has previously worked at KPF and David Chipperfield Architects.

She holds a master of architecture from Princeton University and a bachelor of architecture from Tongji University. She has also studied at Cardiff University in United Kingdom, Berner Fachhochschule in Switzerland and Queensland University of Technology in Australia.
