Ed Michalenko is the Supervisor, Town of Dewitt. Before serving in that capacity, for eleven years, he was a Dewitt Town Councilor and a strong advocate of budget constraint, open government, neighborhood improvements, and the environment.
He serves as President of the Onondaga Environmental Institute (OEI), a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to environmental education, research, planning and restoration in Central New York.
Supervisor Michalenko’s official bio lists an impressive number of state and federal grants that he is currently administering, all of them address environmental monitoring, remediation and education.
Supervisor Michalenko holds a Ph.D. from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse; his research focuses on the effects of chemicals in the environment, and he conducted the first base wide Ecological Risk Assessment of a military installation at Cape Canaveral Air Station, in Florida.
He is twice is the recipient of the U.S., Environmental Protection Agencies’s, Environmental Quality Award. He has taught high school biology and chemistry, held adjunct faculty positions at ESF and Syracuse University, where he has taught courses in ecology, the American environmental movement, environmental science, and environmental education for teachers.
