Yuliia Batkova received her Ph.D. cum laude in Architecture from Politecnico di Milano, where she was awarded an Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) Fellowship. Her work investigates how cities reconcile continuity and transformation through processes of historical layering, reconstruction, and
reinterpretation in places shaped by complex cultural and political histories. She has presented internationally and published in edited volumes and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Her current research explores the role of architecture in articulating historical continuity through post-war reconstruction.
Prior to joining Syracuse University, Batkova taught architectural design studios at the undergraduate and master’s levels and supervised thesis research at Politecnico di Milano, School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering. Her teaching approaches architectural design as a product of
relationships negotiated across scales of place, form, and time, treating architectural composition as the means through which such relationships are rendered legible.
