Amale Andraos, AIA, HFRAIC, is the co-founder and principal of WORKac, an award-winning architecture and design practice, committed to creating architecture that engages environmental and social concerns with a particular emphasis on public, cultural and civic projects.
WORKac has achieved international acclaim for projects such as Marea in Lebanon, public libraries in Queens, Brooklyn, and North Boulder, Colorado, two PILARES Community Centers in Mexico City as well as the Student Success Center at RISD. Current projects include the Sibley Dome Renovation at Cornell, the People’s Theatre in New York and the Beirut Museum of Art as well as residential developments in Lebanon and Albania.
Andraos is also Professor and Dean Emeritus at Columbia University where she has served as Special Advisor for the Climate School. She is recognized as an architecture thought leader and has lectured and taught widely. Her publications include The Arab City: Architecture and Representation as well as We’ll Get There When We Cross That Bridge, 49 Cities, ‘Above the Pavement the Farm!’ and ‘Buildings for People and Plants’ in collaboration with Dan Wood.
