Blanking: Practice, Research, Reflection, Reorientation
Rosalyne Shieh will discuss her new book Blanking: An Annotated Archive of Projects and Thoughts on Architecture and be joined in conversation with Ellie Abrons. Co-authored with Troy Schaum, the book is informed by a process borrowed from metal fabrication called blanking, in reference to the collaborative formulation of ideas around a collection of terms and images that make up a conceptual lexicon for practice. Projects drawn from 15 years of collaboration as Schaum/Shieh are set within a wide range of textual and visual material and conversations, reframing studio practice away from individual works and toward the navigation of values, questions, and propositions as knowledge.
