Entangled Landscapes: Architecture, Planning, and the Bight of Biafra
This conversation centers on Joseph Godlewski’s book The Architecture of the Bight of Biafra: Spatial Entanglements (Routledge, 2024), which examines how race, landscape, and the built environment were co-produced in southeastern Nigeria from the early modern period to the present. The discussion highlights how port cities, trade networks, and everyday spatial practices produced entangled landscapes, challenging standard narratives of architectural and urban history and opening new directions for planning scholarship.
