Islanding architecture: Islands as an architectural methodology
Focusing on the subject of islands and “islanding” as methodology, this lecture will dive into the history and theory of Island as territories used across history and disciplines as wildcards able to juxtapose opposing and dialectic spatial qualities, such as dynamic and static, isolated and connected, or solid and liquid. From there, we will take the island concept and extend it to “islanding” as a useful and generative architectural methodology of design and analysis in its infinite valences as both limited and absolute spaces.
