Himil Ramani is an architect, researcher and curator whose work focuses on the intersections between performance art, architecture, media, ecology and exhibition practices. His upcoming book titled “Interrogating Plants: Cleve Backster’s Environmental Media Practices” explores the underseen connection between media and ecology during the Cold War period; a time when US military and intelligence agencies engaged in numerous forms of biofeedback experimentation intended to operate in the thresholds of consciousness, and to mobilize bodies and ecosystems as sites for surveillance and control.
Ramani has worked at Storefront for Art and Architecture as Production Assistant and Exhibition Archivist, and has held positions as adjunct assistant faculty at Columbia University’s GSAPP for seminars History of Architecture Theories with Mark Wigley, and Transscalar Architecture: Construction Detail as Cosmopolitical Enactments with Andres Jaque. Ramani holds MS in Critical, Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture from Columbia GSAPP, and a Bachelors in Architecture from University of Mumbai.
