The grant will allow GAC to build a full prototype home in Masoro, and will represent the first implementation of Earthbags as a construction technique in Rwanda, adding a low-cost, low-carbon footprint and low-tech housing option to an environment with serious housing needs.

Syracuse Architecture Assistant Professor Yutaka Sho, co-founder of General Architecture Collaborative (GAC), was awarded this year’s Arnold Brunner Grant from the New York Center for Architecture for her project entitled “Sustainable Housing in Rwanda”.
