Laurel Consuelo Broughton

Laurel Consuelo Broughton is a designer and academic who explores her interests in narrative, material culture, and style within architecture, design, and fashion through projects, publications, and collaborations at a multiplicity of scales. The object as form and cultural figure features broadly throughout all her work. Laurel directs WELCOMEPROJECTS, a studio of discursive sensibilities focused on the production of real things in the world along with all the incumbent, critical fictions needed for their survival. She received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University (NYU) in Comparative Literature and Critical Theory and her Masters of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI_arc). As adjunct design faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Architecture she teaches both studios and seminars that look at the history, theory, and culture of architecture and design. Her work has been featured in numerous publications such as The New York Times, Vogue.com, Paper Magazine, Form Magazine, Elle, Newsweek, Marie Claire Italia, Lucky Magazine, Volume, and Nylon Magazine among others. Most recently her installation, Blackholes was on view at The Santa Monica Museum of Art. Two new drawing projects will be published this spring in Offramp, The SCI_arc Review of Contemporary Architecture and Pidgin
