Portfolio as Project

More than a mere container for images, the portfolio is a powerful format for consolidating and expressing the strengths and key ideas of an architect’s practice. Its design is, arguably, as important as the projects within.

This two-day workshop takes an in-depth look at the architectural portfolio—as a site for project documentation, a structure for presentation, and a series of spaces in which to tell a story. On day one, students will have the opportunity to review their portfolios alongside their peers and receive feedback as a group. A brief lecture, demo, and Q&A session will follow, providing a crash course on design considerations specific to the portfolio format and on strategies for best presenting work. Students will gain a working understanding of basic typography, graphic design grids, and approaches to project layout and sequence. Those who would like to receive additional, one-on-one feedback will be invited to attend an optional second session on day two.
