2020/2021 Virtual Career Services Offerings – Syracuse University School of Architecture
Although we are currently unable to meet with students in person, we have a variety of means to connect with students as they continue through their job/internship search process.
Career Resources: Students can find handouts and career preparation resources to guide them through every step of the job/internship search process under the Career Center tab on their Handshake homepage. Type in the keyword: Architecture.
Bi-Weekly Career Newsletter: We will continue to send our monthly newsletter on a bi-weekly basis throughout the pandemic. The newsletters will continue to provide announcements, job search tips, upcoming virtual events and posting deadlines.
Quick Questions: Students can always email us with quick questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will do our best to provide a response within 24 business hours.
Resume & Cover Letter Reviews: Students who would like a review of their resume updates or cover letter can email their documents to email@example.com. We will respond back within 24 business hours.
Advising Appointments: We have increased the number of available 30-minute student appointment slots. Students may schedule a career advising appointment directly through Handshake. These appointments may be conducted via phone, FaceTime, WeChat or Microsoft Teams.
Career Services Express/Office Hours: We offer bi-weekly Career Services Express sessions (drop-in sessions) which will be promoted via Handshake. These sessions will be held via ZOOM.
Career Workshops: We will continue to host career workshops in a virtual format utilizing ZOOM. Upcoming workshops include: “NCARB/AXP Overview” and “Career Paths Beyond Traditional Architecture Firms”. All workshops will take place on ZOOM and will be listed and promoted through the Events tab on Handshake.
Alumni Panels: Alumni conversations with students to discuss the field of architecture, preparation, and challenges faced following graduation.
LinkedIn Learning: LinkedIn offers a variety of webinars and training videos on a wide array of topics such as building your personal brand, networking, virtual interviewing, etc. Log-in here: LinkedIn Learning.
GoinGlobal Country Career Guides: Are you looking for industry information outside of the US? Searching for a position in your home country? Country specific search tips are available through GoinGlobal.
Big Interview: Big Interview is a tool available to all Syracuse University students interested in practicing their interview skills. Videotape your responses and receive immediate feedback. Utilize a pre-made industry specific interview or create one of your own using Big Interview. Completed interviews can be shared to firstname.lastname@example.org for additional feedback from the Architecture Career Services team.
Alumni Mentoring Program: Alumni have offered their time and knowledge to network with recent/upcoming graduates via email, phone or ZOOM sessions. Students will be paired with an alum based on geographic and industry interests.
VMock: VMock is a tool available to all Syracuse University students interested in immediate, electronic resume feedback. The system utilizes tools and criteria created by the Architecture Career Services Staff to offer real-time resume critiques.
Virtual Portfolio Reviews: We are collaborating with alumni to offer portfolio reviews via ZOOM. These 30-minute timeslots offer a great opportunity for students to gain technical feedback on their portfolio from industry professionals.
Alumni Industry Insights Conversations: We will be hosting virtual alumni panels and ‘coffee chats’ to discuss the current hiring challenges being faced by our top employer partners and hiring teams. Events will be promoted on Handshake.
Virtual Career Fair: This fall we hosted a Virtual STEM Career Fair in collaboration with the College of Information Studies (iSchool) and the College of Engineering & Computer Science (ECS). Students were able to connect with alumni and recruiters through virtual 1:1 and group sessions.
Virtual Architecture Interview Days: Our on-campus interview program will be going virtual this year. Employers will have the opportunity to host virtual interviews for both internships and full-time positions. Schedules will be created through Handshake with interviews occurring through a virtual venue of the employers choice. Architect Interview Days will be scheduled for March 8 - 19, 2021. Interview days may also be scheduled before and after these dates to accommodate the hiring needs of our employer partners.
