Joon Ma (he/him) is a designer, educator, and co-founder of one-aftr, an architectural practice based in New York and Seoul. He joins the Syracuse University School of Architecture faculty in fall 2021.
Prior to joining Syracuse University, Joon was a faculty at Virginia Tech University, teaching 4th-year studio and coordinating undergraduate thesis. He also served as an assistant instructor at Princeton University and Columbia University. Professionally, Joon worked at OMA/AMO Rotterdam and worked with Guy Nordenson, Catherine Seavitt, and Paul Lewis on the Jamaica Bay Tree Ring: an afforestation handbook for the National Science Foundation. His work has been recognized internationally, placing 2nd on the Europan 15 Vienna competition, shortlisted for the Dubai World Expo Korean Pavilion, and most recently exhibiting at the Venice Biennale.
He earned a Master of Architecture from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize for his thesis, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Davidson College.
