Close to the Edge: The Birth – Part 1 moderated by Mitesh Dixit

The Birth – Part 1 is the first of two conversations exposing deeper investigations into Hip-Hop Architecture. Each speaker will discuss the origins of their association with the architectural movement and share projects and ideas connected with their work in the exhibition.  This panel will feature rapper-turn-designer, Tajai Massey from the Oakland-based 1990s groups Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mischief along with “the godfather of Hip-Hop Architecture,” Nathan Williams, whose 1993 B. Arch thesis at Cornell is the earliest documented student exploration on the subject.  Syracuse Architecture Assistant Professor, Mitesh Dixit, whose early hip-hop education in Chicago now influences his own teaching and practice, will moderate the session.
