gayle allard

Gayle Allard is professor of economics at the IE Business School and the IE School of Architecture and Design. Her research centers on the effects of welfare state policies on employment. Prior to joining IE, she worked as an economist for JP Morgan in Madrid and as a research economist at The Economist Intelligence Unit. Professor Allard holds the following degrees: Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Davis; MA in international economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies; MA in Hispanic studies, from the Monterey Institute of International Studies; BA in political science from Willamette University.

Javier Bernard

Javier Bernard is professor of communications and presentation at the IE Business School and the School of Architecture and Design. He is also professor of advertising and marketing at Universidad Europea de Madrid. He is a communication and marketing executive with experience in executive management in FMCG companies (Procter & Gamble, BAT, Buongiorno) and in communications and media agencies (MediaCom, Mediaedge:cia). He has led teams of 100+ while managing some of the largest advertising accounts in Spain. Founder and CEO of Speak & Span, a public speaking training center, Professor Bernard has coached thousands of managers in large Fortune 500, and smaller, companies. Professor Bernard holds a degree in law and in business administration from ICADE E-3.

Jose María Compagni

Jose María Compagni is professor of marketing fundamentals at IE Business School and the IE School of Architecture and Design. He is also owner and managing director of Docensas, a private company devoted to the education and training of elevator industry professionals. With more than 20 years of experience in diverse senior positions, he has led business development and marketing initiatives at companies such as Macpuarsa or MP Corporation. In 2013, he established Compagni & Associates in Seville, Spain, to provide international marketing services. José María Compagni studied law at the Universidad de Sevilla and business at the IE Business School in Madrid.

JUAN LAGO-NOVÁS

Juan Lago-Novás is director of the masters in architecture and management at the IE School of Architecture and Design. He is also principal of DSC Architecture, an office for innovation in architecture practice. Based in Madrid, DSC works internationally on projects at different scales and in different sectors. Professor Lago-Novás is also vice-chair of the Juan de la Cosa Foundation, an organization that helps promote Spanish architecture internationally. Juan Lago-Novás received his professional architecture degree and Ph.D. from the Escuela Superior de Arte y Arquitectura (ESAYA) in Madrid. He also holds an MBA from the Escuela Politécnica de Madrid and has studied at the Harvard Business School in the Leading Professional Service Firms program.

PABLO MARTIN DE HOLAN

Pablo Martin De Holan is dean of MBAs and professor of entrepreneurship and strategy at EM Lyon. He also manages the Global Entrepreneurship Program at Purdue University and ZJU (China), and the doctorate in business administration (with Lingnan-Sun Yat Sen University, China). From 2006 to 2012 he was chair of the Entrepreneurial Management Department at the IE Business School. During his tenure at IE, the Financial Times of London selected the Entrepreneurial Management Department among the world’s 10 best. Professor de Holan holds a Ph.D. in strategic management from McGill University and a MA in sociology from the Sorbonne-Paris V.

WILLIAM MURRAY

William Murray is director and owner of Wordsearch, a 20-year-old marketing and communications firm. He has worked with many of the world’s leading architects and designers including Rafael Viñoly, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Frank Gehry, Foster and Partners, Wilkinson Eyre, KPF and SOM. Projects include, among others, One World Trade Center, the Cheesegrater, the Gherkin, the Shard, Battersea Power Station, Barangaroo, One 57, Masdar City. William Murray holds a BSc in Construction Management from the Bartlett School of Architecture-UCL.

BALVINDER SINGH POWAR

Balvinder Singh Powar is associate professor at the IE Business School. His expertise includes creative and strategic input, business development and senior management, team leadership, relationship management and business mediation. Professor Powar has extensive experience leading business, social, cultural, media and technology projects in Spain and internationally. He is a board member and director at BOOSTER Space Industries and AERDRON, an innovative international Sub-Orbital Space/Aerospace project and UAV/Drone Consultancy. Professor Powar is a business and finance graduate of IE Business School and he also holds a master in mediation from the University of London.

MICHAEL SPEAKS

Michael Speaks is dean and professor at Syracuse Architecture. Speaks was dean of the College of Design at the University of Kentucky from 2008–2013; director of the graduate program from 1998–2001, and founding director of the Metropolitan Research and Design post-graduate program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles 1998–2005. He was founding editor of the cultural journal Polygraph and former editor at Any in New York, and is a former contributing editor for Architectural Record. Speaks holds a BA from the University of Mississippi and a Ph.D. from Duke University.

MARTHA THORNE

Martha Thorne is dean of the IE School of Architecture and Design and also executive director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, a position she has held since 2005. She served as a Trustee of the Graham Foundation for Architecture and the Fine Arts and on the Board of Directors of the International Archive of Women in Architecture. Thorne is a member of the Board of Advisors of IE Higher Education. Thorne holds a master of city planning from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Affairs from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She also studied at the London School of Economics.
