Interviews take place on Fridays. Please see the right sidebar for open dates. These dates are scheduled before our spring break (March 12 - 16, 2018) so that you may invite students to your firm for second interviews. Rather than a “Career Fair,” this is an opportunity to pre-select interviewees and conduct full 30- or 45-minute interviews. The typical format is to arrive in Syracuse by 7:00 pm on Thursday to participate in a casual Q&A/Mixer with the students. Interviewing begins as early as 8:00 am on Friday.
There are no fees for the recruiting days. Also, if a visit to our campus is not possible this year, you are welcome to contact the students directly to invite them to visit your firm over Spring Break. Another option is a “Skype” interview. Students are prepared to share their complete formal portfolios with you, both printed and via web links.
Resumes and Sample Pages for the Class of 2018 will be available for your review after Dec 1st. Resumes and sample pages for Class of 2017 candidates are posted here. You are welcome to review them and select the students you would like to interview. Younger students are also available for summer position interviews.
Some firms will send an info package to explain the culture and work of the firm. This is helpful in reducing the time needed to describe the firm during an interview.
During the interviews, you are welcome to set up your laptop in the “waiting room” at the Schine Student Center. Students are very interested to learn about your office culture and the role of recent graduate interns, especially information that is not already available on your website.
The Thursday night Q&A and mixer, 7:00 - 8:00 pm, gives students a chance to meet you in a casual setting which may lead to a more relaxed interview. The discussion is “off the cuff” dialogue about the profession, based on general questions the students will ask. The event will be held in the School of Architecture’s Slocum Hall.
Interviews on Thursday evening will be conducted in Slocum Hall. Friday interviews will be conducted in the Interview Suites at the Schine Student Center. During the interview day, I will be checking in with you to be sure you have everything you need. At noon, we take a break for a “sandwich wrap & chips” lunch at the Schine Center so that all visiting architects may eat together and network. If you have time, you are welcome to explore the studios in Slocum Hall. Some employers also like to block out time on Thursday afternoon to visit the studios to see thesis projects in process.
If you are interested in visiting our campus, please let me know the date you prefer. We are limited to a maximum of eight interview rooms each day, on a first-come-first-serve basis.
