Neil M. Denari, FAIA, is the founder and principal of Neil M. Denari Architects Inc. (NMDA) and a Professor of Architecture at UCLA. A practitioner for more than 30 years, he has attained an international reputation as an architect committed to building new ideas in highly crafted and beautiful forms. As a champion for making cities more livable, sustainable, and convivial, Neil’s vision blends social aspirations with a mastery of construction.

Among his many awards is the Los Angeles AIA Gold Medal, which he received in 2011. He is the author of three books, including the recently released MASS X, a 775 page compendium of 50 NMDA projects.

Neil received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1980 from the University of Houston and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University in 1982. He lived and worked in New York between 1983-88 and in Tokyo in 1990-91. His work is included in eight museums and he continues to exhibit and lecture around the world.

The Mark Robbins Lecture Fund was created in 2014 by Richard Gluckman ’71 of Gluckman Tang Architects. Gluckman, a School of Architecture alumnus and former School Advisory Board Chair, established this fund in honor of Mark Robbins MArch ’82, dean of the School of Architecture from 2004 to 2012. The fund supports an annual lecture in New York City by nationally and internationally known architects, scholars, curators, theorists, and critics who are important contributors to the design disciplines.
