2. The JOINT PROJECT.
One of the conditions of the Joint Study contract called for a demonstration project, one that would illustrate the potential of Integrated CAD. Among the objectives of the project were:
  • 1. To demonstrate that "high level" CAD can operate in the academic environment.
  • 2. To demonstrate an approach and teaching mechanisms that allow integrated CAD (in particular AES) to be used in a substantive way.
  • 3. To demonstrate the process involved in applying CAD to design
THE PLAYERS.
One faculty from each of the three academic divisions served as Principal Researchers. Faculty cooperated in selecting and writing the project program. Each selected or recruited students from their own disciplines, using their own criteria for qualification. Three fifth year architecture students, four fourth year interior design students and two graduate civil engineering students were participated.
THE SET UP.
A series of meetings with officials of the City of Syracuse led to the selection of a city owned site in an historic district known as Armory Square. An advisory committee was formed, with members of the city's Department of Development and zoning staff together with the Director of Urban Design. A local developer and a representative of the local business community also participated. The advisory committee assisted in the development of the program and the selection of the site
