From the PCs in Slocum Room 310:
You will need an account on the NT server arch_nt_01.

If you do not have an account, send an email to:
Prof Bruce Coleman
In the email subject heading type "NT account request".
In the mail message, state your first and last names.

New accounts are usually ready in 24 hours.
Your new password will be your last name, in lowercase with no spaces. If your name is less than four characters long a unique password will be assigned, usually by adding numbers to the end, such as kim0314.
You should change your password on your first login.
To change your password,
  • Press ctrl-alt-delete.
  • Click on Change Password
  • Type in your current password
  • Type in your proposed new password
  • Re-type in your proposed new password.

Suggestions for a good password:
- different from your previous one,
- at least 7 characters, both upper and lower case,
- at least one punctuation mark and at least one number,
- not in the dictionary of any language,
- not a two-word combination,
- not two words separated by a number or punctuation mark,
- not a date or phone number,
- not a Social Security, automobile license or other ID number,
- not your (or someone else's) nickname, name or user name,
- does not use part of your name, and
- not an alphabetic, numeric or keyboard sequence.
An example of a good passwd is "Si4S,ns!" (S is for Snow, not sun!).
