DESCRIPTION OF FORMZ:
FormZ  contains three highly integrated programs: 1) a 2D drafting program 2) a 3D modeling program and 3) a rendering and animation program. The current version includes simple walk through animation. It's strength is 3D modeling and rendering. Models may be displayed in  wire frame, hidden line removal, shaded and shadowed form.

The rendering program, Renderzone, adds extensive rendering capability including surface colors, textures, texture mapping, reflectances and transparencies. Rendering types include phong and gourand shading, Z buffer, ray trace and radiosity.

COSTS

FormZ cost vary depending on whether you get:

  • FormZ  without the documentation.
  • FormZ  plus the documentation.

The School of Architecture is able to purchase FormZ at a healthy discount because we have a signed contract with them to maintain what they call a "Joint/Study Program". Individuals (faculty or student) may buy an "extension to the joint/study agreement".

The lowest cost is $60, the max is $158 (see chart below).
The software is time restricted and runs for either one semester (one half year) or one full year and expires on July 31. A full year license starts on August 1 and can be purchased from June through November. A half year's license starts on February 1 and can be purchased from December through May. FormZ sends replacements for the software every six months.

Legally the only way FormZ can be used on school machines is within the CADCluster (Slocum 316) or the CADLabs (Slocum 107 or 109) where software license management software can be run.
Faculty may install it on an individual faculty machine in their office but the school must buy a separate copy and the school retains ownership of it.
If faculty want to run a copy on their own machine at home then they should get their own copy, either through outright purchase of the software or through the joint/study agreement. Faculty may wish to talk with Bruce Coleman, Deb Adams, Julia Czerniak, Anne Munly, Mark Linder, Terrance Goode, Kirk Narburgh or Laura Auerbach, all of whom have copies of the software.
PURCHASING

To purchase an extension to the school's license:

  • Pick up a copy of the form outside Prof. Coleman's office (Slocum Hall 309)
  • Fill out the form, paying particular note to the system you intend to install the software on,
  • Note whether you want one-half a year or one full year
  • Note whether you want the documentation (instruction books).
  • Sign and date the form.
  • Payment may be through
Money Order (available at any bank (typically with a $3.00 or $4.00 charge) or Wegman's ($0.89 charge),
or credit card (VISA, MC, or AMEX).
No checks are permitted. This is a change in policy and no exceptions are permitted.
  • Return the form directly to Prof. Coleman. The forms are typically faxes directly to formZ, unless you otherwise stipulate.
  • The time required to send the info and receive the software runs from one week (at best) to two weeks (more likely).

For any further questions contact Prof. Bruce Coleman.

SUPPORT
One consequence of the JointStudy program is that all contact with Autodessys should go through Prof. Coleman. Please do NOT contact Autodessys directly.
The school is not in a position to provide support beyond what may be taught in specific courses. For installation and contract issues, consult with Prof. Colelman. For use of the software itself, you may wish to consult the FormZ web site. For problems with your account, particularly in Slocum 316, contact Andy Molloy.
There are also several books on FormZ that are now on the market, such as
