  • PageMaker and Quark: both examples of publishing applications.
    • Both of these applications assume, for the most part, that all text and images are produced elsewhere and then imported into the layout.
    • There are several steps in setting up a layout:
      • Page size
      • Margins
      • Decide if facing pages are wanted
      • Page orientation
      • Number of pages
    • As in Photoshop, guides can be created by placing the cursor on the ruler and dragging the guide to the desired location.
    • The rulers aid in accurate text and image placement.
    • The "R" denotes the master page.
      • Anything placed on the mater page (guides, text, and images for example) will appear on every page.
    • Frame-the box constraining an image, or text after placed on a page.
    • The user can treat the space surrounding the actual page as working space. Items can be placed here in preparation for layout.
    • Control, Alt, P
      • Code used to auto place page numbers on every page.
    • If an imported text ‘overflows’ the frame, click on the resulting red triangle at the base of the frame and create a new frame. The text will then flow from the first frame to the second.
