| Basic bitmap manipulation: The
first exercise is intended to be very very simple. It should only take 15 minutes to an
hour to complete.
If you find that it is taking longer than one hour, stop!
This image begins with one file, the plan, provided for
you. The final image will be composed of at least five layers
- The first layer is the plan of the building as provided.
- The second is a screen, preferably white, as a 40% to 50%
opacity overlay of the floor plan of the building.
- The third is a layer that outlines the volume of the
building.
- The fourth is a layer that renders zones of the building as
poche.
- The fifth are lines of symmetry and proportion.
- The sixth is text.

| Obtaining the image. The image
is available right here. Before saving it to your own folder or disk, be sure that you
have properly set the folder in which the file is to be saved!
Right click on PLAN OF BUILDING (or on the image at the
right) and select "Save target as ...". The file is 422kb in size. |

Submitting the file:
- Save your image file with the filename yourlastname.550.assignment1.
- Since the original file had the extension .gif
the file you save will also have the extension .gif making the full filename yourlastname.550.assignment1.gif
- Do not flatten the file. Leave all the layers intact.
You may submit the file in one of two ways:
- Save it onto a zip disk and turn it in at the designated
time. Be sure that your name is on the disk and the disk box!
- Email the file to me at bcoleman@syr.edu.
Simply attach the file to your email. State clearly in the subject of the email:
yourlastname.550.asignment1. For example: smith.550.assignment1
