Network Drives
Students can access the following lab network drives from their studio computers while on the campus network:
- H drive / My Documents (personal lab storage) - your My Documents folder on the lab server. Each student has 2.0 GB of personal storage. Files deleted after each semester.
- K drive / Drop box folders - the place to submit your files for the 3D printers, CNC mill, and
Cinema 4D render farm.
- L drive / Archive folder - this is where you turn in your digital files at the end of the
semester. There will be folders setup for each course and section and you can drop your files
in the appropriate locations.
- M drive / Courses folder - shared course folders; access depends on your course requirements. Files deleted after each semester.
- R Drive / Resources folder - here you can find software such as V-Ray for Rhino and Bentley Microstation, as well as the Drawing and Map Archive, the laser cutter template, and printer color palettes.
- S drive / Scans folder -after scanning a large format image on Zelda, the file shows up on the S drive. Files auto-deleted after 24 hours.
- X drive / Scratch folder - a temporary shared space, accessible and visible to all students. Files can be stored here for up to 24 hours, but may be deleted earlier if the drive runs low on space. Files are automatically deleted after 24 hours.
How to Connect to the Network Drives
Windows users - follow these steps to create a shortcut to the studio.bat file. This shortcut connects you to the lab network drives.
- Before continuing, make sure you already completed Step 1 under the instructions for setting up the lab printers.
- Right click on an empty portion of the desktop and choose New->Shortcut
- The Create Shortcut window will open. In the location box type \\arch-nt-file\netlogon\studio.bat then click Next to continue. Click Finish. A new icon on your desktop called 'studio' should appear.
- Now that the studio shortcut has been created, double-click it to run it. If you open My Computer, you should see the seven network drives.
- Remember to run the studio icon each time you want to connect the network drives (have your wireless connection up and running first!)
Mac OS X users, follow these steps:
- With the Finder showing, click Go, Connect to Server, or type cmd-K
- For address enter smb://arch-nt-file.syr.edu then click Connect.
- In the authentication box that shows up, enter your lab username and lab password then click Connect
